About Katharyn

Katharyn Wiegand

Current Trustee, Volunteer, Leader

I am an experienced leader with 32 years in nonprofit leadership and 12 years as an elected school board trustee. I'm currently employed as President and CEO of a nonprofit foundation. These roles provide valuable insight and experience for this important community work. My volunteer work with Canyon ISD began years before I joined the school board. I have served as school board president along with membership on numerous board and district committees. As a member of the school board construction committee, I helped oversee development and implementation of the district's $196.7 million bond project which included four new schools, renovations to Happy State Bank Stadium, a new career and technology campus, and renovations throughout the district. I volunteer as a pronouncer and judge for spelling bees, a judge for UIL events, an interviewer for Competitive Edge week, and many other student activities.

I have been a resident of the Texas Panhandle my entire life. I earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in business from West Texas A&M University. Steve and I have two sons who attended Canyon ISD schools from kindergarten through graduation. I want to help ensure that current and future students experience the same high level of education and encouragement that our sons received. We have been active members of First Baptist Church in Amarillo for nearly 30 years where I have served on and led various committees, taught the Financial Peace class, served as co-director of the Newlywed Department, and substituted as a Sunday school teacher.

I would appreciate your support in my re-election campaign for Canyon ISD Board of Trustees, Place 2. Please be sure and vote for me and encourage others to do the same.
